Breastfeeding a newborn baby.

Having a new baby is a wondrous, exciting and often challenging time. Breastfeeding is a normal, learnt skill that takes time and practice. You may have many questions, such as: Should breastfeeding be painful? How often should I breastfeed my baby? How long should a feed take? How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk? Do I have enough milk? Do I have too much milk? Will breastfeeding get easier? Should I express? Breastfeeding may be uncomfortable, or even painful. You may have heard conflicting information and are feeling confused about how to feed your baby. (continues below)

Our initial 90-minute consultation will focus first on understanding you and your baby’s medical history, feeding patterns, growth, output (wet/dirty nappies), and behaviour. I will observe you breastfeeding your baby and provide guidance to optimise position and attachment, for comfort and to help your baby remove milk most efficiently. All of your questions will be answered and you will come away with a deeper understanding of normal newborn feeding behaviour. I will provide recommendations and together we will arrive at a management plan that meets your unique feeding needs. I provide a brief follow-up phone call within days of the assessment. Additional 30-60 minute appointments will be arranged depending on your needs.

With support, you will have the confidence to feed your little one. Small problems dealt with quickly can be resolved with the right care.To make a booking, please click the button below.
